Tony Younger

Operations Manager

Tony brings experience, practical knowledge and organisation to his role as Operations Manager. With a strong multi trade skillset, he understands construction from both the practical side and the management side.

His main job is the smooth running of our projects, but he is not afraid to get hands on and use his own skills on site when a job needs it.

Tony is the link between our clients, trades, suppliers and site teams. He coordinates labour and materials and keeps a close eye on progress, quality and the programme, so every job stays organised and runs efficiently.

  • Labour and materialsThe right people and the right materials on site when they are needed.
  • Progress and qualityRegular checks on how each job is going and how it is finished.
  • The programmeKeeping every stage on track, and telling you early if anything moves.

Passing the trade on

More than forty years separate our most experienced builder and our newest qualified ones.

Tony Hughes mentors our younger team members on site, passing on the skills and traditional building techniques he has learned over his career. Brett and Charlie have both recently finished their apprenticeships and are now fully qualified builders, still learning alongside him every day.

It is how we keep the old methods alive on the older houses we work on, and how the next generation of North Yorkshire tradespeople comes through.

How the team works on your property

The standards we hold ourselves to on every job. These come up in reviews more than anything else, so we take them seriously.

We turn up when we say we will

If something changes, you hear it from us first, not from an empty driveway.

A clean site each evening

Tools away, dust sheets checked, rubbish cleared. One client told us scrubbing the new patio on the last day summed us up.

Polite with neighbours

We let neighbours know what is happening and keep access clear. It is your street and you still have to live there when we have gone.

What clients say about the team

Renovated living room with oak floor
★★★★★

Barlow Construction has helped me through a major renovation of an 1860s property, involving new suspended ceilings, new wall linings throughout, full damp proofing, new doors and lintels, a new central heating system, and new bathroom and kitchen installs. Lewis has been a pleasure to deal with throughout, and his advice and guidance have been invaluable. His onsite team show considerable depth of experience, with no dramas in dealing with the unexpected work that crops up in an old building. If only all firms were like this to deal with.
